Harry Gilonis on Bill Griffiths?s wake and funeral:
Despite collapsing bridj, rain (driving), and the true horrors of an early start, I made it up to Sunderland and Seaham for Bill?s funeral/wake. It was good to see so many fellow-poets in attendance (I didn?t write out a list and am still train-lagged, but can recall off the top of my head Clive Bush, P.C. Fencott, Allen Fisher, Ulli Freer, Alan Halsey, Piers Hugill, Geraldine Monk, Stephen Mooney, Tom Pickard, Tom Raworth, William Rowe … as well as some members of Bill?s family, local and far-flung friends, as well as fellow- workers in dialect studies, etc. Bill?s many publishers were represented ? some poet-publishers listed above, and also civilians Steve Clews and Peter Hodgkiss; plus two gents from Northumbria University Press ? who came to the funeral *and the wake. All in all, a good send-off.
