Shortlists unveiled for the 2008 Independent Publishing Awards
The Independent Publishers Guild and its partners The Bookseller and the London Book Fair are proud to reveal the shortlists for the 2008 Independent Publishing Awards. The nine lists showcase the very best of independent publishing in the UK. Six companies ? Arcadia Books, Alastair Sawday Publishing, Barrington Stoke, Earthscan, Michael O?Mara Books and Snowbooks?are nominated for two awards each, while 22 different companies are represented in total.
The winners of the nine awards will be announced at a Gala Dinner during the IPG’s Annual Conference on Saturday 8th March 2008 at the De Vere Grand Hotel in Brighton. A tenth overall award ? chosen from a shortlist made up of the four Publishers of the Year in the Trade, Children’s, Academic & Professional and Education categories ? will be presented on the night to The van Tulleken Independent Publisher of the Year. Bridget Shine, Executive Director of the IPG, says: ?The IPG congratulates everyone who has made the shortlists for the Independent Publishing Awards. We are grateful to our expert judges for their efforts in whittling down a very strong field of entries, and to everyone who took the time to enter. These awards reward the magnificent achievements of independent publishers and show just how much variety and talent there is in companies of all shapes and sizes and working in every corner of the book business.”
NIELSEN INNOVATION OF THE YEAR
Salt Publishing made the shortlist for finding new ways to increase sales of its poetry and short stories despite tough market conditions,through online marketing, partnerships and brand development. “Salt is bucking the trend in poetry by growing its sales. Its innovation in lots of small ways adds up to a major achievement.”
