Salon are having a big party to kick off the first night of two weeks of events at SALON (LONDON). Joining them for the launch are: Tom Chivers, Roddy Lumsden, Andrew Dawson and Dead Man in a Box.
Tom Chivers was born in London in 1983. A writer, editor and promoter, he is Director of Penned in the Margins, Co-Director of London Word Festival and Associate Editor of Tears in the Fence. He was Poet in Residence at The Bishopsgate Institute, London. His first full collection, How To Build A City, was published earlier this year by Salt. http://thisisyogic.wordpress.com/
Scottish poet, Roddy Lumsden received an Eric Gregory Award in 1991. His first book Yeah Yeah Yeah was shortlisted for the Forward Prize in the Best First Collection section. His second collection The Book of Love was a Poetry Book Society Choice and shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize and The John Llewellyn Rhys Prize. Roddy Lumsden is Dead followed in 2001, then Mischief Night: New & Selected Poems which was a PBS Recommendation and, in 2009, his fifth collection Third Wish Wasted, published by Bloodaxe Books.
Andrew Dawson brings his Space Panorama to SALON (LONDON). Space Panorama is a sparkling recreation of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Standing behind a large black clothed table, accompanied by a narrator and music from Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony, he uses only his hands, arms and upper torso to create a constantly entrancing documentary of the entire mission. He dextrously takes us from Houston to the moon and back down to Earth again, conveying the colossal distances and risks involved simply through the arrangement of one hand in relation to the other, with the odd facial expression thrown in for good measure. http://www.andrewdawson.info/space_panorama.html
Dead Man in a Box are London?s premier improvised comedy group. Leaving all others quaking in mirth and fear behind them, Dead Man in a Box have been going since 2007 and laugh in the face of comedy death. Having vomited their special brand of improv comedy gunk all over London and beyond, Dead Man in a Box are poised to take over the world, one support slot at a time.
