Railtrack are supporting the reinstatement of the poem in Waterloo underpass, but we now need to raise funds to enable City and Guilds to recreate the work:
Dear Poetry Supporters,
Today we got one stage nearer to having the poem being re-instated. Network Rail have finally given their permission – if we can raise the funds – for the poem to be put back. It is a testament to you all that they have listened.
Thank you for caring about this small cultural incident. It seems important that something so fragile as poetry has been able to stand up against bureaucracy.
Unfortunately the estimate from City and Guilds has come in closer to 4k than 2k. This is still just for cost and no one is going to make any profit out of this. I am investigating cheaper possibilities. It will have to go back in a new form as the tunnel is now blue.
Salt publishing have set up an official fundraising site. If the nearly thousand people on Facebook all give £4.00 we would have the money. My pledge to you is that if we do not raise enough – or in the exceptional circumstances that we raise too much – the excess money will go to a homeless charity. This seems appropriate for a project sited at Waterloo.
We hope that after all the hard work we can make this happen. I am doing a broadcast on BBC London tomorrow to talk about it. Happily it nows seems there might be a brighter outcome.
Anyone who has any suggestions for replacing the poem at less cost, do please get in touch. It will, of course, have to be approved by Network Rail.
Thank you all again for your heartwarming support. It has been really fantstic.

Please give as much as you can. Thank you all so much.
