Novelist Nicholas Royle, fiction editor at Salt Publishing and series editor of The Best British Short Stories, has moved to Jonathan Cape and Vintage for his seventh novel, First Novel.
Vintage publisher Dan Franklin and editor Frances Macmillan bought world rights from agent John Saddler, for publication in 2013.
First Novel is described as the “brilliantly clever” and “playful” story of a creative writing tutor obsessed with debuts. Franklin called it “a murder mystery, a campus novel, a meditation on identity”, praising it as “wonderfully dark and funny”.
Royle’s most recent book, Regicide, was published by Rebellion in September.
